Orthodontics for Teens
Braces, retainers, and everything else you want to know about orthodontics.
You have just heard the three words that every teen dreads: YOU NEED BRACES!
Braces! What Now?
Do not worry. Braces are not nearly as scary as you may think. Today’s braces come in a variety of styles, materials, and colors, making life with braces easier, more comfortable, and even more stylish than in the past.
How Long Will I Have to Wear Braces?
The amount of time it takes to treat your smile with braces depends on three key factors:
Early Treatment
Early orthodontic treatment allows orthodontists to monitor the growth of the jaws and airways and recommend further treatment if needed. Not every patient receives early treatment, and in some cases it may be best to wait until you are older to begin orthodontic care.
What Needs Correction
The amount of correction needed plays a major role in treatment length. Some patients may complete treatment in as little as twelve months, while others may need twenty four months or more. Every smile responds differently, and treatment time depends on how your body responds and how much work is needed to achieve your best smile.
You
Your willingness to wear and care for the appliances your orthodontist provides is extremely important. Taking care of your braces and following instructions can help shorten treatment time and lead to better results.
